New mom Kate Middleton

wore a custom-made

Jenny Packham dress

Tuesday as she stepped outside

a London hospital,

unveiling her newborn son

to the eager public for

the first time.

The cornflower blue, polka-dot print

appeared to be a

 touching tribute to Princess Diana,

who stood in a similar dress on the same

steps at the St. Mary’s Hospital

nearly three decades ago,

when Prince William was born.

The 31-year-old new mom made her stunning post-baby debut in a knee-length cornflower blue bespoke crepe de chine dress by British designer Jenny Packham. The dress featured a similar polka-dot pattern to the one Princess Diana wore in 1982 while introducing Prince William with husband Prince Charles. The Princess of Wales wore a green knee-length, loose-fitting polka-dot dress at the time. Both Middleton and Princess Diana were photographed standing on the same steps at St. Mary's Hospital posing with their newborn sons, who were swaddled in white blankets.

The adorable royal babies of Europe

 JULY 2013
As the world awaits the arrival of the Prince William and Kate Middleton's royal baby, we take a look at the youngest European royal babies born in the last few years.

From Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, Denmark's cute twins, to Sweden's only royal baby, the adorable Princess Estelle, here are some of the regal babies and toddlers that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's baby may be having palace play dates with.

Royal Baby updates...Things are progressing as normal...

Hands up who's been waiting all week for
HRH baby to arrive?
Yup, me too...

The baby will be third in line for the British throne, and should eventually succeed grandfather Charles and father William as king or queen of Britain and 15 other countries including Canada and Australia.

Little else is known about the eagerly awaited royal baby, from how it will arrive to its gender or its name.

Kate _ formally known as the Duchess of Cambridge _ is expected to deliver in the private Lindo Wing of the hospital, where Princess Diana gave birth to William and his younger brother, Prince Harry. It is not clear if she will have a natural birth or deliver by a planned cesarean section.

Royal watchers must wait to be told of the baby's arrival from the palace, which is planning to reveal the news through a mixture of tradition and social media.

Once the baby has been delivered, Prince William will reportedly make a call to the Queen on an encrypted phone.
At the same time members of the royal family and the Middleton family will be told of the birth. The Palace will also inform the UK government, the Archbishop of Canterbury and the governors-general of the realms including Australia.

The medical team will sign a formal notice that will be taken by car to Buckingham Palace. The notice will also reveal the baby’s gender.

The formal notice will then be placed, according to time-worn tradition, on a wooden easel in the Buckingham Palace forecourt. The placement of the notice on the easel marks the moment that the birth is "officially" announced – and at that point the palace will also release the news via Twitter and other electronic media.
The same easel was used to announce William’s birth, though for some other royal births the notice has been chained to the palace railings.
The baby’s name has not been revealed – and may not be announced until days after the birth. Officially it will be titled “His (or Her) royal highness, prince (or princess) of Cambridge” – the family name of Windsor may not appear on the official birth certificate.

The first that the public will see of the baby will be when the couple leave the hospital after the birth – at a time agreed on by the couple and their doctors.

The duchess had her last official public appearance last month.

Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty Magazine, told Reuters that Prince William wanted to keep the media at bay.
“He saw the way his mother, Princess Diana, suffered at the hands of the paparazzi, and he wants to make sure this does not happen to his wife or his own children,” he said.
It is the baby's gender that is of particular interest because the prospect of Kate's pregnancy prompted a change to laws of succession to ensure a daughter would not be passed over for the crown by a younger brother. Boy or girl, the child will be third in line to the throne and the prospective future monarch.

Royal lookalikes in Kate tot stunt

ROYAL-WATCHERS went into maternity meltdown yesterday when they were fooled by two Sun lookalikes at the hospital where the Duchess of Cambridge is due to have her baby.

Britain’s favourite newspaper sent the pair — dead ringers for Prince William and wife Kate — to lift the mood outside the clinic where well-wishers and news crews had been huddled in anticipation of the imminent royal birth.

Even the Queen’s ex-press secretary Dickie Arbiter was taken in — tweeting: “Kate’s in through the front door” before the penny dropped and he added: “False alarm Sun stunt.”
Meanwhile reporters from all over the world rushed forward to grab the first exclusive interview as Twitter exploded with the “news” of pregnant Kate’s hospital arrival.

The Sun’s comic prank began just after 5pm when our blacked-out Range Rover and Mercedes pulled up in front of the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington.
Professional lookalikes Nicola Maher, 22, from Lancashire, and 30-year-old Tom Moore from Bromley, South London, drew gasps as they stepped towards the crowd.

WATCH replay of moment our convoy left world's media and passers-by stunned at 'royal' arrival
Guarded by our “security” team — two Sun reporters — they got all the way to the hospital’s front door.
But then, as cameras clicked and fans screamed, they ripped open their tops to reveal Sun T-shirts reading: “No1 for Royal baby news.”
We set up the stunt to entertain viewers of our Royal baby monitor — a live feed on our website from outside the Lindo Wing. Thousands of fans worldwide have been logging in for a glimpse of any action.

But the monitor had become a cult hit as most of the time nothing had happened — until yesterday.
Afterwards our lookalikes said everyone took their Royal baby false alarm in good spirits.
Nicola, who was wearing a fake bump, said: “We were so happy with the reaction from the hospital staff, they were smiling and enjoying it, which was the idea.
“It was supposed to be good honest fun to cheer everyone up.

“It was unbelievable. I could hear the cameras snapping and people yelling ‘Kate’. They kept asking is it a boy or a girl? And what will you call it? Some shouted suggestions. They definitely fell for it.
“The foreign journalists were going crazy. They were zooming in on my belly and someone asked to touch it. We were getting mobbed.”
Tom said: “I was really nervous the real security would push us on — but it went down really well.”

Royal superfan Terry Hutt, who has been camped outside the hospital dressed head to toe in Union Jack clothes, said: “It’s the best thing to happen here in nine days.”
When they realised they had been fooled, journalists and royal fans across the US and beyond were delighted by our prank, which was featured on Sky News as part of its Royal baby coverage.

Carolyn Ryan, political editor of the New York Times, tweeted: “Now this is journalism! @TheSunNewspaper send Kate and Wills lookalikes to the hospital in anticipation of #royalbaby.”
And Rose Andrews, a royal fan from Tennessee, said: “Those wacky Brits! @TheSunNewspaper fooled me with royal lookalikes at the hospital. I wish our American newspapers had a sense of humor!”
Bloomberg reporter Rob Hutton said: “Lookalikes mobbed by cheering snappers. This is the most exciting #royalbabywatch has been.”

Brogan Kirkby tweeted: @TheSunNewspaper has actually made my day.” The real Wills and Kate are thought to have spent yesterday at her parents’ Berkshire home. Meanwhile a sack of toys for the Royal baby was delivered to the hospital yesterday by well-wishers in France.
The gifts, including a ride-on miniature classic sports car and a guitar-shaped music box, were chosen in an online poll.
